Dear Sally and Billy,
I’m coming home! About 10 days ago we captured Virginia and we knew we had it from there. We just had to secure it. A few days after that almost a third of Lee’s troops surrender. Lee had no one to fight for him and showed up at Willmore McCleans Farm house to surrender. I’m so proud that we have finally done this after four years. I love you and I hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,
Alfred A Scales
