I am writing you this letter to inform you about our great stroke of luck that we have had since the last time I've spoken with you. Ever since the first battle we ever won against the Confederates, we have kept on winning battles against them. One of the many reasons we have kept on winning is because of Sherman's march. The outcome of his march has stopped the rebels from supplying them selves in Atlanta, and getting manufactured goods from it. Since the south only has a couple of manufacturing centers, Atlanta was vital to the south. Not only did Sherman help against that, he took anything he could to supply his men and to help the North, he would even set slaves free from their owners, on his way towards Georgia. I admire what he has done, especially in our time of need, he is a great inspiration, and a hero to the North, who will be remembered. Anyways I hope you are staying strong without me, hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely, your husband,
-Nelson McCook
